We invite you to join us at the Garden States botanical conference for three days of ethnobotanical knowledge sharing on plants, fungi and the environment. Our program will explore relationships between humankind and plants, including gardening, conservation and sustainability, culture, art, spirituality, philosophy, research and politics. Garden States is designed to encourage community building around medicinal plants, research, and psychedelic culture.
Get your hands dirty and learn from the experts on how to grow and share ethnobotanical plants. Participate in community-lead learning and meet like-minded botanical folk from across Australia. The conference will consist of multiple stages hosting simultaneous presentations, some live streaming elements as well as a bustling, ethnobotanical marketplace.
The main conference will take place as an in-person event across Friday, December 3rd, and Saturday, December 4th. For the first time, we will also be operating as an online hybrid event, enabling people from across Australia and around the world to attend. Online attendees will have access to the main stage and additional online streaming content.
On Sunday, December 5th, we are currently planning to host an informal community gathering in the afternoon, for in-person attendees. The social day will include a plant meet and a book swap in an outdoor space at the Springvale conference venue. We will also provide additional online content on Sunday morning that will be accessible remotely for all ticket holders.
In response to COVID-19, the conference will now take place as a hybrid event. There are three main ticket categories, some with several ticket subcategories (standard, concession, First Nations, etc.).
1. 'General' tickets permit the holder to attend the conference and the Sunday social gathering in-person. ‘In-person’ ticket holders can also access the Sunday live stream content and will receive a printed copy of the EGA Journal.
2. 'Online - Australian' tickets permit access to three days of livestream content from the conference main stage. 'Online - Australian' ticket holders will receive print and digital copies of the 2021 EGA Journal. These ticket holders must have an Australian postal address.
3. 'Online - International' ticket holders get access to three days of livestream content from the main stage. 'Online - International' ticket holders will receive a digital copy of the 2021 EGA Journal. These ticket holders will also receive special access to a digital copy of the EGA Compendium, which includes articles from the first three EGA Journals.
All 2021 EGA Garden States Conference ticket holders will have access to the recorded livestream for three months after the conference. All ticket holders will receive a copy of the 2021 EGA Journal, with the physical or digital format of the journal they receive depending on their ticket category.
